An Xbox 360 along with a Nintendo Wii

The sale of the XBOX platform has always lagged behind in Japan even from the days of the original console release. The X360 has also been unable to beat the Japanese maker’s (Sony and Nintendo) game systems in terms of number of units sold. In light of the current market situation in Japan, Microsoft yesterday announced that it would reduce the price of all the Xbox 360 systems this month. Here is what Gamespot reports:

Today, at a Tokyo media event, Microsoft announced that it is slashing the prices of all three of its Xbox 360 models…in Japan. Starting on September 11, the 120GB Elite will go from ¥47,800 (about $441*) to 39,800 ($368) and the newly 60GB Pro will go on sale for ¥29,800 ($275)–¥5,000 ($46) less than its 20GB predecessor. Most significantly, however, is the price cut of the hard drive-free Xbox 360 Arcade, which will see a drastic drop from ¥27,800 ($257) to ¥19,800 ($183).

GamersX (PK) Shutting Down Permanently?

Today a shocking news was revealed on GamersX (PK). Their primary game server, cs.gamersx.net, would permanently be shutting down due to some unexplained technical reasons. While this news has put up a big question mark on the future of online gaming in Pakistan, it also provides a good opportunity for other hosts to catch up with the competition.

Hosted in Lahore, GamersX (PK) was one of the busiest Counter-Strike 1.6 servers in Pakistan, with almost 8000 registered nicks. Though it was the home ground of the GamersX clan, it provided equal opportunity for every to every member to prove them selves and even become moderators on their servers. The server ran AMXX 1.8 and HL Guard 1.8 providing maximum hack protection with minimal trojan and virus threats.

From my sources inside GamersX, I have confirmed the reason for shutting down this server. Apparently, this was because the server management costs were increasing every day, and since it didn’t have any revenue stream nor was it backed by any corporation, the owners decided to shut down the server. No official word has been given on whether the server would resume its services in the foreseeable future.

I will keep the updates coming as I get more information on the matter. Feel free to share your thoughts below, and share any other good servers you play on.

Age of Empires: The Road to Victory

This is part one of the extensive gameplay report I have been assigned to do on Age of Empires. Even though my time for this game is up and I have already resigned from the Elite 4, I am still serving the community as a gameplay and strategy analyst. This report would deal with the gameplay methods and strategies of our team and the European Crusaders. This would be divided into two subtopics, strategy analysis and gameplay techniques we would utilize to implement those strategies. I would like to start by analyzing our own gameplay first with a detailed discussion of the outcome of our previous battles. I would list our weaknesses, potholes in defense and strategy, and if any, our strengths. Then I would proceed with the analysis of the opponent team in the same manner. After this all, I would enlist possible strategies we might take on in an attempt to do the impossible, which is to beat the other team. This introduction is intended to give you a guideline for the entire document. And the reason I am posting it as a blog post is only that we would be able to discuss it in more detail online.
